Description
Welcome to Across the Tracks Music Store
This listing is for a very hard to find 7 inch Single from:
Jimmy Wakely
Title: Folsom Prison Blues
The B side is: That's What The Lord Can Do
Catalogue number 45-05563
Label: Brunswick
Release Year: My research indicates that this was a 1956 release
This Brunswick label has the 3 prong triangular center and the wording (Made In England)
This single is in amazingly Excellent Plus condition for its year. It had been in my collection for over 15 years and belonged to a relative before that.
Both sides play exceptionally well & it may even make a near mint grade, which I do not often award.
The grooves are clean and scratch - free and this is an awesome single for the year. The record has that shellac feel to it, rather than the modern day vinyl but it is a stunning copy.
Both sides have been listened to in full.
The record comes in a Brunswick red company sleeve. The sleeve is a nice one, with all edges intact and it has been kept in a plastic over-sleeve since I acquired it .
I don't know much about Jimmy Wakely as an artist, but both songs sound great, and Folsom Prison Blues of course was originally recorded by Johnny Cash.
The A side has a nice Rockabilly feel, with the Choo Choo train rhythms, loved so much in the 1950s songs.
This version by Jimmy Wakely, is a cover version of Folsom, which was Johnny Cash's second ever UK release.
Please do ask any questions you may have before bidding if you need assistance. Grading
I use the Rare Record Guide matrix as a guideline, as well as other sources of reference, including Discogs, but also prefer to listen to the vinyl where possible and not just to visually grade the condition.
