Description
For sale is a vinyl record by Joan Baez titled Diamonds & Rust, originally released in 1975 on A&M Records. According to the liner notes, this record was mastered by Mike Reese. In the dead wax between the labels and the last tracks is machine stamped an upper case "MR" inside a circle, along with "TML-M/ TML-M" delta 18802", followed by the matrix numbers M-1/M-1, indicating that the album was mastered at The Mastering Lab in Los Angeles, California before the first stampers were used to make this record at Monarch Manufacturing Company's pressing plant, located in Los Angeles, California. These are hallmarks of state-of-the-art engineering, sought out by collectors and music lovers for their superior sound qualities. I bought this record used and immediately put it into an archival inner sleeve. This preserves the integrity of the insert(s) or the original inner sleeve(s) that may have come with the release. The inner sleeve is graded as Near Mint. The vinyl is visually graded as Near Mint with smooth, shiny surfaces without any spindle marks on the labels. I'm play grading this album as Near Mint with a spacious soundstage and pinpoint imaging. It plays all the way through without pops, skips or surface noise. The cover is graded as Very Good Plus because of corner blunts, edge rubs and a 2 inch seam split on the lower right hand corner. The spine has color loss at the corners from these blunts. This is still one of the best copies of this hard to find album that I have ever seen or heard and you would be hard pressed to find an original Monarch pressing like this one. It's been played only on Audiophile equipment since I bought it and the album still has a lot of life yet. This would be a great addition to anyone's collection. I'm not a professional grader of records, but will use record guides, as well as my personal experiences as a basis of my grading all records. Since grading is subjective, I will be conservative.
