For his new album “Blues Of Desperation”, guitar virtuoso Joe Bonamassa took on new challenges. In order to further develop his classic sound, he deviated from his usual approach. Instead of Marshall amplifiers, he exclusively used tweed Fender amps for the first time. Instead of one drummer, he quickly brought two drummers, Anton Fig and Greg Morrow, into the studio. He completed his studio band with bassist Michael Rhodes, keyboardist Reese Wynans, brass players Lee Thornburg, Paulie Cerra and Mark Douthit as well as background singers Mahalia Barnes, Jade MacRae and Juanita Tippins.
However, when it comes to songwriting for “Blues Of Desperation,” JB stuck to his usual patterns. As with his predecessor, “Different Shades of Blue,” he wrote all of the songs in Nashville, Tennessee. He received support from some top creatives, including James House, Tom Hambridge, Jeffrey Steele, Jerry Flowers and Gary Nicholson.
