It all started two years ago. Joe Cuba and his sextet envisioned a trend in dancing wherever they appeared, and saw excitement in the dancers faces when he played Latin rhythm with English lyrics!
His first endeavor was "El Pito", where he took an old Dizzy Gillespie phrase, "I'll never go back to Georgia" and incorporated it into this song.
The dancers, both young and old, picked up on this excitement and with the help of Joe Cuba and his Sextet created a new dance called, the Boogaloo!
Joe Cuba, to help create more excitement, would throw or toss small whistles into the audience, and this also built up entusiasm.
Then came the giant. "Bang Bang" by Joe Cuba and Sextet helped the music and dance business considerably by furthering the boogaloo dance to the peak of its craze. When the Joe Cuba Sextet opened at the Village sate in New York City the prevailing excitement of his "Bang, Bang" created a leier pitch of anticipation among the audience, and they would not allow him to leave the bandstand until he played "Bang, Bang" for one solid hour.
The management of the club could not contain the audience as they danced on top of the tables. The Boogaloo was made and, so was the Joe Cuba Sextet!
Many of the Latin groups followed this trend and called themselves the
"King of the Boogaloo". But, the Joe Cuba Sextet was called "The Dic-tators". This new LP, entitled "My Man Speedy" prove that they are the
"Dictators" and that the youth of today governs our music trends and, with great satisiaction, we recommend this LP
as being a master by our own
inimitable Joe Cuba Sextet.

Que la evolución de la música moderna se hace cada dia más notable, es una realidad, que la juventud gobierna como siempre el tipo de música que ha de regir por una generación, es una realidad indiscutible, y dentro de esta evolución, hay definitivamente grupos musicales que indican la pauta a seguir y que de todos los grupos existentes el que más se destaca e impone su ritmo y sus novedades ganando el liderato en la evolución de la música, es indiscutiblemente EL SEXTETO DE JOE CUBA.
JOE CUBA, hace dos años comenzó a evolucionar su música, ganando la aprobación no solo de la juventud, que creó, al sonido de un nuevo ritmo que representaba el sentir de la juventud, un número que tituló "EL PITO", a ese ritmo, la juventud se entregó bailando algo que mas tarde titularian el "BOOGALOO", y cuando JOE CUBA, siempre creando algo nuevo, lanzó la grabación de su famoso "BANG BANG", ya no había duda, de que ese era el ritmo, y llámesele Boogaloo, Shingaling u otro nombre, esa es la música, ese es el verdadero ritmo, creado por JOE CUBA y su maravilloso
SEXTETO, del cual han provenido, y seguirán imponiendose, porque la juventud es la que dicta, siempre que se trate de bailes modernos, ritmos nuevos y demas.
A muchos se les ha dado el título de REY DEL BOOGALOO, y muy bien se les puede atribuir que los títulos les pertenezcan, porque se han dedicado continuamente a programarlo, y a popularizarlo, pero cuando se trate de implantar un nuevo ritmo, tenemos que justamente catalogar a JOE CUBA Y SU SEXTETO, como LOS DICTADORES de los nuevos ritmos, llámesele como dije anteriormente BOOGALOO, SHING-A-LING, o lo que se le quiera llamar.
Este nuevo disco de larga duración que titulamos MY MAN SPEEDY, es una verdadera demostración de lo que anteriormente expuse, y es con gran satisfacción que lo recomiendo como una gran obra maestra de nuestro querido JOE CUBA y su maravilloso SEXTETO.
