Description
Black Label Mono first pressing of John Coltrane Giant Steps, Atlantic 1311 12" vinyl LP. Has hand etched #11637-A & 1168-A, & AT (both sides) in runout groves along with a design resembling an ear or a fleur de lis, also in the runout.
There is some general wear from play on the album and cover. To be on the safe side, I would rate both the album and cover at the high end of the VG rating. You will hear a small amount of surface noise, there are a couple of very light scratches, but none you can feel. The album is recorded very well, and the performance is legendary. GRADING (Done visually, based on Goldmine)
Near Mint (NM or M-)
The record should show no obvious signs of wear and will be glossy/shiny. A sleeve should have no more than the most minor defects, such as almost invisible ring wear or other signs of slight handling. No cracks, scratches or warps.
Excellent (EX or VG++)
One or two light marks visible on the disc at most, otherwise full gloss. No cracks, scratches or warps. Sleeve shows 1-2 marks, nothing too major, maybe at the edges.
Very Good Plus (VG+)
A Very Good Plus record will show some signs that it was played and otherwise handled.
Record surfaces may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experiences. Maybe also slight warps that do not affect the sound.
Sleeves will have some slight wear, lightly bent corners, or a slight seam split.
Very Good (VG)
Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during the intro and fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise. Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as with scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.
Labels may be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers (or their residue) attached. The same will be true of picture sleeves or LP covers.
Good (G), Good Plus (G+)
A record in Good or Good Plus condition can be put onto a turntable and will play through without skipping. But it will have significant surface noise, scratches and groove wear.
