John Coltrane Giant Steps
Giant Steps was John Coltrane’s first release on Atlantic Records. It was released in February of 1960. All tracks are with a quartet, although personnel change track to track on piano and drums. Paul Chambers plays bass on all tracks, including “Mr. P.C.” named for him.
The album is not only considered one of Coltrane’s greatest works, but is widely regarded as one of the most influential jazz albums of all time. Indeed, in 2004 it was one of fifty recordings chosen that year to be added to the National Recording Registry and it is ranked on the Rolling Stone list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. It finally achieved Gold status by the RIAA in 2018.
This is the remastered STEREO Rhino reissue from 2008. It is a limited edition of 2,500 sets worldwide. It was pressed by RTI on two 45 RPM discs on 180g vinyl. It is a SEALED promotional copy with a marker strike through the bar code (some of the wrapping is torn back to accommodate the bar code strike, pictured). MINT.
