In reference to the lack of a deep groove, I have found this from the internet when I googled "Giant Steps 1311 No Deep Groove" :

".....There were two plants pressing the discs. One plant pressed 95% of the initial Giant Steps LP and those pressings were graced with the ever popular "deep groove" inset about 3/4 of an inch from the edge of the label. The other plant had a newer press that provided no deep groove but did a fantastic job. Aficionados that have heard both pressings generally prefer the non deep groove initial pressing." - This was from a completed ebay auction in which the person selling this LP described his credentials as having been a record collector since 1965 and have had his/her own record shop since 1994 and managed another record store before that. This copy sold for $739.

In this same auction there was a link posted to jazzcollector.com, in which a discussion thread had a topic about this same pressing. Someone on that thread mentioned that "They (the black label DG and non DG) are both first pressings. They were just pressed at different plants. One plant still used the old machines with the DG, and another used a newer press with the non DG. The non DG is more rare and better quality then the DG press. You will see about 20:1 DG to Non DG."

LP is VG+, with light scuffs and several light scratches on either side - plays with some surface noise with no skips. Etched matrix info is as follows: 11637-A AT / 11638-A AT. Interiors labels are clean. LP retains a nice gloss. Listen to each track from this actual LP, for reference:

Giant Steps 4.mp3

Giant Steps 5.mp3

Giant Steps 6.mp3

Jacket is VG+, with a couple of seam splits. The first seam split is in the center of the bottom seam, about several inches long. There is a tiny split near the bottom of the spine, and another at the bottom left corner on the bottom seam (see pictures). All corners show wear (see pictures). Front and back of the jacket retains a nice gloss, and the color on the front remains bright. Back of the jacket shows some light scuffing and light ring wear. There is an ink stamp in the back bottom right corner. It is hard to read but I think it reads "B30." The West 57th Street address appears at the bottom of the back of the jacket. Does not include original paper inner sleeve - LP is housed in a plain white inner sleeve. Don't miss this rare gem!
