Rarely seen original UK 1st mono pressing of this early 60s outing for The John Coltrane Quartet, also featuring Eric Dolphy on flute and alto sax, and McCoy Tyner on piano.
Issued in the UK on HMV in 1962, this is a great find for Coltrane and hard bop fans.
The front laminated flipback sleeve has seen better days, and has a small tear to the top right front cover, corner wear, minor creasing, and tape has been used to repair flipback damage on the back. That said, it's all in one piece and the spine has a nice clear readable title. It grades Good to Good+.
The heavyweight vinyl has plenty of scuffs and hairlines but as so often with these early to mid-60s pressings, plays FAR better than it looks. Visually I'd grade it Good+ at best, but the audio is conservatively VG+, maybe even better. Very little noticeable surface noise and the music comes through loud and clear with great dynamic range.
The HMV gold and burgundy labels have some spindle wear but otherwise are fine.
The vinyl comes in its original wax paper lined HMV inner sleeve which is in VG++ to Excellent order.
Desirable item for jazz fans - sensible offers welcome.
