Description
A rare find. On the A-side is the demo version of the 1971 Apple single God Save Us. The released version has no vocals by Lennon, but he provides guide vocals on the demo version. The song was originally to be titled God Save Oz as it came about from a request to John to help the 'Oz' underground magazine publishers who were facing a ridiculous obscenity trial in 1971 in London. Eventually it was realised that nobody in America would have a clue what 'Oz' was, so it was changed to 'us' for release with Lennon's name only attached as producer. The B-side is an outtake song which was never released. It was recorded by David Bowie and Lennon, who was collaborating on Bowie's 1975 'Young Americans' album. They recorded 'Let's Twist Again' together but it was never released by either of them. Rumours abound to this day that 'Let's Twist Again' is a fake of some sort, and that Bowie does not perform on it. However, Bowie himself has neither confirmed nor denied it, so it remains out there as a likely collaboration between the 2 great men.
The vinyl is EX, and the sleeve is VG+ with signs of age staining. I have played the record on both sides and it sounds very crisp and clear. For the benefit of the winner I have put two small stickers on the centre labels to denote which song is on that side.
