GRADES
AUDIO GRADES
WRITTEN AS I LISTEN.
A. The recording quality is great for a picture disc. Loud and bright. No repeating clicks and no skips or jumps. Top and bottom end frequencies haven't degraded in any way. There is some crackle at the start, this lessens as the track progresses. Being in storage for so long I guess it would benefit from a deep clean perhaps. I've played this side through now four times, and it gets a little better each time.I'm going to grade this as excellent minus.
B. Another two classic Lennon tracks. Decent recording quality with no deterioration to the top or low end frequencies. Despite rarely playing this single, there is some crackle throughout. Like side one, I have played this through about four times and some crackle has gone, some has stayed. No jumping or skipping or loud repeating clicks or ticks. My stylus is very delicate, heavier settings lessen the crackle too. I'm going to grade this side as very good.
SLEEVE.
This single came housed in a poly sleeve with a loose medium weight card backing board. The board is in very good plus condition, and show no damage apart for nominal storage wear; so light marks and some fine creasing at the bottom right corner. No names, stains or stickers. It will be supplied in a new poly sleeve as I do not have the original anymore.
VINYL LOOKS
A. Really nice indeed. I can see no hard scratches or scuffs only a couple of very fine superficial marks on the track itself. Now if you have been looking for a copy of this you will have noticed that many, many copies have a badly discoloured centre. Not an uncommon thing with any picture disc really. Luckily for us both I have had this single boxed up and out of sunlight for the last 20 or so years. Yes there is some signs of the colour beginning to change, but compared to many it is very nominal and only in the beginning stages. Great result! Now, there are multiple marks just around the centre hole on this side only. Not spindle marks because but factory pressing marks of some kind that have been there since I purchased this on the week of release. Lastly there is a very, very, very slight wave in the vinyl, like really slight. Quite common with picture discs, and this is barely visually noticable, certainly not wavy enough to effect the audio. I'm grading this side as excellent.
B. Another great looking side. It is tricky, but under close light I do think I see just a couple of very light medium length fine marks. Maybe a fingernail mark, or stylus slip. Superficial in nature. No marks around the centre hole, and no discolouring either. Grades as excellent minus.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I remember this single coming out to promote the Imagine film.It was quite an exciting time for us Beatle/Lennon fans with a lot of new and unique promotional products coming out, and of course the film itself is a gem; really uplifting yet also very sad. I'm getting a bit emotional actually recalling those simpler times while I listen to Imagine playing here beside me. So I bought this single, had in in my collection, played it just a little, then it got boxed up with most of my other Beatles collection until being unboxed just recently. I am selling all my collection here bit by bit. Illness means that I now want other fans to enjoy my discs, and hopefully I get to create a bucket list fund before it's too late. This copy is not factory fresh, but it is up there compared to many. Certainly it is far from being just a filler copy. A decent addition to your collection.
GRADING YOUR VINYL
I use the classic U.K Rare Record Guide grading system. Detailed below are their guidelines.
MINT
The LP or single is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items are in perfect condition.
EXCELLENT
The LP or single shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD
The LP or single has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and an occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover and contents without any major defects.
GOOD
The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
POSTAGE
All records come with a protective poly sleeve, and new white inner. Records are shipped outside of the sleeve within reinforced cardboard packaging to ensure safety during transit.
