Description

An original 1st press of IMAGINE on the UK Apple label. Matrix 1U/1U - 1st cut. Many copies were produced during the seventies - and will all look similar to the untrained eye. But can you make sure you find a proper genuine 1970 1st press - as there are some major differences to be had in terms of quality. Firstly, the original 1st pressing can be found on solid vinyl not the flimsy later inferior vinyl weight. The 1U/1U's are required along with Porkie motif of the famous George Peckham who mastered it. We don't have the poster or promo photo. But there is the cool credit inner. The covers were slightly better quality and will have pinched spine.
Vinyl (Ex) Lovely condition particularly when you consider the vintage. Under close inspection I can only make out a couple of very light marks per side, a superficial trail, nothing troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are really quiet and the audio comes across with superb clarity. Judging by the quality of the audio - we are close on to those original masters....there is no other explanation. Quite a few very fussy tracks on this title - but the track that nearly trips every copy is the title - Imagine. This one is fussy and VERY popular...so as you can imagine most will play with some background. Getting a clean player, in my opinion, is an absolute must. Hardly any background really. A couple of crackles in a couple of spots per side. Highly entertaining. Jealous Guy...wow. Do they all play like this? Nope.
Cover (Vg+) Looking much smarter than the average original copy. Maybe just a hint of ageing - but pretty minimal. All seams and edges are in lovely condition. Really tidy with nothing unpalatable. Very little edge wear. Spine 98% intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) Aged and a couple of small music key notations. No splits.
