John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band Imaging UK Apple

Matrices YEX 865-1U and YEX 866-1U

Genuine first pressings of this lp are actually rarer than people inagine. There are a number of things that tell you whether you have a genuine first pressing or not.

  • The Matrices end in A1U and B1U
  • The Run off grooves have "Porky" scratched in them
  • The inner sleeve is printed with the lyrics and personnel (astonishingly copies from about '76 onwards don't have this as it's the only place the songs are listed!)
  • The poster is printed on slightly off white paper with a prominent texture (the repress is on bright white paper with a much lighter texture) 

Needless to say, this copy has all of these features.

The record is in near mint condition. It is flat and very clean and shiny: indeed it looks almost like new. There are no observable marks in normal light but in very bright light there are a couple of wispy marks that make no difference to the sound which is flawless throughout. There are a couple of spindle marks indicating that the lp has been played a couple of of times but this has made no difference to the quality of the sound or how the lp looks. It will be very difficult to find a better copy anywhere.

The labels are in excellent condition. They are free from writing, rips, tears or stickers. There are a couple of spindle marks. Other than that the labels are superb.

The cover is in excellent condition. It is clean and tidy and with no creasing. There is a little roughness to the opening where the laminate has shrunk (not feathering). The spine is still pinched at the bottom and top. Overall this is a lovely example of this cover.

The printed inner is in excellent condition. There is a little light wear at the top where it has rubbed against the sleeve. Other than that it is very crisp and very. The lp has made a circular impression on the inner but it would have been much like this from new and it hasn't led to any noticeable wear.

This is an investment quality copy. The sleeve isn't perfect but it is very close and the lp itself is stunning. Happy bidding.
