Description
This auction is for a US 1st (and only) Pressing LP of John Lennon's legendary "Roots".
This is an original US 1st Pressing with A/B matrices.
I have been buying, selling, and collecting Beatles-related LPs for several years and to the best of my knowledge this is a GENUINE example of this incredibly rare US-only mail-order LP. HOWEVER, PLEASE BE AWARE THAT I CANNOT BE 100% CERTAIN AND AM NOT SELLING THIS AS GUARANTEED GENUINE.
I purchased this from a dealer in the US several years ago and have compared it with several examples I know to be fakes and it passes all the comparison tests that suggest it is real:
1) The spine reads "GREAT" not "GREATEST" (only genuine examples read "GREAT")
2) The "STEREO" wording to the bottom right hand corner of the front of sleeve has separated S and T letters (these are joined on fakes)
3) The sleeve is made from one integral sheet of thinnish glossy card folded, joined at the back, and looks good quality and well-made (fakes are from much thicker board with slicks stuck over it, and look shoddy in appearance - put the 2 side-by-side and you'll see what I mean!)
4) The "VIII" of the "Adam VIII" logo on the labels is clear and space is visible between the characters (fakes are blurred)
5) The labels state "33 1/3" (fakes read "33 - 1/3!)
6) The label lettering is within the central perimeter (on fakes it is larger and begins outside the inner perimeter)
7) The embossed labels are a deep orange (fakes are a paler, more "faded" orange)
8) The vinyl is thick and fells like it is good quality (fakes are thinner and flimsier)
9) The "Bell Sound" logo is etched into the run-out grooves (these tend to be clumsily stamped into fakes)
10) The inner sleeve is plain white rice paper (fakes are greyish and on thicker paper)
Catalogue number is Adam VIII A-8018
Sleeve is Mint and beautiful (with a very very slight knock to the bottom corner at the opening). Vinyl looks rarely played (if it has, it can't be more than a couple of times) and retains its glossy sheen. There are some light hairlines (possibly from taking it out of the sleeve and putting it back in) and I can only see the slightest traces of spindle marks on the labels (although as they are embossed directly onto the vinyl these would be harder to see than normal paper labels.) I will conservatively grade the vinyl as EX+++ as it is likely it has been played at some point.
A fabulous example of an incredibly rare LP.
REMEMBER: This is NOT sold as GUARANTEED genuine, but I believe it to be the real thing as I have seen several fakes and 1 or 2 real ones and this ticks all the right boxes as far as I am concerned - please refer to pics and decide for yourself.
NOTE: White marks are reflections from lights!
