John Lennon Yoko Ono “Double Fantasy” 1980 1st Day of Release PROMO! Vinyl NM!
A first day of release stamped promotional copy! A small 1st run with promo stamps was done at the L.A. Capitol Records pressing plant for distribution to the music industry in LA and radio the day of release. This initial first pressing has the incorrect (and later re-done) track order on the cover. The vinyl is shiny with no visible marks NM. The Cover has some shelf wear on the bottom edge and a faint shadow of ring wear, but overall EX. There is a gold promotional stamp on the front lower left corner, and a hype sticker “Contains the Hit Song: (Just Like) Starting Over” on the front top right corner. The white glossy inner sleeve with black print has the credits and song listings listed. The sleeve is intact with two partial seam splits. Overall, this is a remarkable 42+ year old promotional copy!
This album signifies a return to order for John Lennon. Mature, and just over a near death experience at sea, John was ready for the next phase of his life. His habits behind him, his marriage with Yoko is again intact and stronger than ever, and his creative juices flowing. Sadly three weeks after the album release, John was murdered by a deranged fan…
The album eventually sold over 3 million copies, and helped put Geffen Records on the map. What separates this copy from the common is that this is a promotional copy from a small first run, and it was distributed to music professionals while John Lennon was still alive. Imagine the excitement when it was first received!
