John Martyn - The Tumbler (Pink Island ILPS 9091 UK 1st Press LP 1968) Acid Folk

This is a 1968 UK Stereo 1st pressing LP. It has a heavyweight fully laminated sleeve. It comes with its original company plain paper inner sleeve. The record is pressed on thick vinyl & has textured "Pink Island" labels. These are the earliest label design with the orange & black circle logo. The record has 1st press ILPS+9091+A and ILPS+9091+B matrix numbers. These are machine stamped in the dead wax. A genuine UK 1st pressing of this late 1960's UK Acid Folk/ Folk Jazz/ Blues Folk LP. These are not that common.


Sleeve: There is mild or very mild rubbing wear to the corner tips. There is some light, mild or very mild hairline rubbing wear on the sleeve opening edges on some areas. This is not too noticeable. There are a couple of mild (8 cm and 10 cm) hairline laminate creases at the top corner area at the spine. These go through the sleeve to a varying degree. They are more noticeable on the front sleeve. They are not that noticeable on the rear sleeve. There is a light 8 cm hairline laminate crease at the corner area at the top sleeve opening. This is not too noticeable on the front sleeve & hardly really notices on the rear sleeve.

There is a thin strip of light or very mild laminate lifting at the spine area on the rear sleeve. There is a 1.5 cm area of mild rubbing wear at the top of the spine face. There are three small horizontal hairline creases at the spine area. This has left a small hairline crease mark on the spine face. Otherwise, the spine is in very nice condition. The spine text is perfectly legible. There is some light, mild or very mild ringwear on some areas. Overall, the sleeve is in Very Good condition

Vinyl: There is a tiny pin-point sized mark, that feels to the touch slightly, at the start of the 4th track on Side 1. This causes a few intermittent clicks at the end of the track before and start of the 4th track (Please see below for more details). The record does not jump. There are about 8 light, mild, very mild or very minor hairline surface marks, or hairline surface sleeve rub marks, on Side 1. Some of these are extremely feint & are barely visible under a strong light.

There are about 3 tiny pin-point sized marks, that feels to the touch slightly, on Side 2.  These cause a few intermittent clicks (Please see below for more details). The record does not jump. There are about 8 light, mild, very mild or very minor hairline surface marks, or hairline surface sleeve rub marks, on Side 2. Some of these are extremely feint & are barely visible under a strong light.

Otherwise, there are some light, mild, very mild or very minor surface sleeve rubs which can hardly be seen under a strong light. The original paper sleeve, over time, has left some light, mild, very mild or very minor feint. or dull, surface marks on some areas. These, again, can hardly be seen under a strong light. Overall, the vinyl is in Good condition. The labels are in Near Excellent condition & show mild spindle wear only.

The company paper inner sleeve is in Very Good+ condition. There is some light, very mild or very minor ringwear, rippling & fading. There is a 4 cm seam split at the centre area on one side edge.

I have fully play tested this LP. Side 1 plays Very Good to Very Good+ overall. As stated, there is a small pin-point sized surface mark/ blob that feels to the touch slightly. This causes approximately 14 light, mild or very mild intermittent clicks. These start at the end of "Goin' Down To Memphis" and into the start of "The Gardeners". It does not jump. There is a bit of more moderate crackle at the end of "The Gardeners" and at the very start of "A Day At The Sea". This doesn't last too long. Otherwise, there is some light, mild, very mild or very minor crackle in some quieter places.

Side 2 plays Very Good overall & Very Good+ in many places. There are a few bits of intermittent crackle on "Dusty". There are about 8 mild or more moderate clicks at the start of "Winding Boy". This, again, is caused by one of the pin-point sized surface marks. It does not jump. There are about 4 mild or very mild clicks on "Fly On Home". There are about 6 clicks on the "Knuckeldy Crunch..." song as well. Otherwise, there is some light, mild, very mild or very minor crackle in some quieter places.
