Description
John Mavimbela and Company, Guga Mzimba / Dali Wami. Sung in Zulu language. Singer Bantu Records G.E 36. 1934.
Record has light surface wear but plays very well, loud and bright. There is a scratch right at the end of Dali Wami that ticks for the
last 15 seconds of the tune.
Guga Mzimba opens with solo piano playing an uptempo but simple tune then two male vocalists sing, about half way through a
muffled clave-like percussion begins. Vocals and percussion fade in and out from time to time while the piano carries the tune along.
Dali Wami is similar, the piano carries the tune but the percussion is hand claps,(I think) again two male voices along with a
female voice who provides occasional ululations.
I presume this is sung in the Zulu language.
