Description
John McCormack (born June 14, 1884 died September 16, 1945), was a world-famous Irish tenor in the fields of opera and popular music, and renowned for his flawless diction and superb breath control. He made numerous recordings, the first on phonograph cylinder in 1904. His most commercially successful records were those for the Victor Talking Machine Company in the 1910s and 1920s. He was the first artist to record “It's a Long Way to Tipperary”, in 1914. He also regularly broadcast on the radio and appeared in a number of sound films.
In 1953 RCA Victor Red Seal Records released McCormack Sings Irish Songs, a 45RPM Extended Play “Treasury of Immortal Performances” of recordings by John McCormack (ERAT-18). Still considered to be the standard by which all Irish (Celtic) tenors are measured, John McCormack had a long and much-honored career on the recital stage, the opera house and radio. His Victor and HMV records sold in the hundreds of thousands. This Record is Extremely Rare.

RCA Red Seal Records is a classical music record label founded in 1902. In 1929, the Victor Talking Machine Company was purchased by the Radio Corporation of America (RCA), eventually becoming RCA Victor. RCA Victor's Red Seal series continued its pre-eminence from the 1930s through the 1950s. The use of a distinctive red label for premium-priced records made by top-tier artists consolidated the companies' position as the market leader in the field of serious music by famous performers. Many of their Premium Red Seal 45's were given the added prestige of being pressed in transparent Red Vinyl.
This Extended Play 45 Red Seal Record is in Excellent Condition (EX). The record shows only minor signs of having been played. There are no scratches or abrasions and all surfaces are bright and shiny. There is no writing on the labels and plays all the way through without skips or pops and has only the typical surface noise for records from this period. There are a few light needle marks, but they do not seem to affect play. The Cardboard Sleeve is intact and in Very Good + condition (VG+) with some mild abrasions on edges and corners from normal wear. Please examine all of the photographs for condition.
