Description
Johnny 'Hammond' Smith The Stinger. Condition is "Used". Shipped with USPS Media Mail. Johnny " Hammond" Smith, who added "Hammond" to his billing to avoid being confused the other musicians named Johnny but whose musical accomplishments would justify his using " Hammond" as an agnomen honoring his mastery of the Hammond organ. He is among the best players of this instrument. Some say that Johnny's playing has been influenced to a large extent by the style of Erroll Garner. It is not so much Smith's playing which is Garnerian as is his conception- his overall approach to music. In Smih's thinking, as in Garner's variety is a major principle. Certainly he does provide variety to an extent approached by very gew other jazz organists. Here be demonstrates that through the selection pick for this album.; The Stinger, There Is No Greater Love, Brother John, Cleopatra And The African Knight, you Don't Know What Love Is, and Benny's Diggin. Joining him on this album are; Houston Person- Tenor Sax, Earl Edwards - Tenor Sax, Floyd Smith - Guitar and John Harris Drums. The record is in near mint condition and the cover is very good plus.
