LP: Johnny Hodges: Dance Bash: Norgran Records MG N- 1024. [Original 12-inch issue (*): original label w/ David Stone Martin dancers logo, ‘deep groove’ / USA]. (Condition (#): record is VG+/VG w/ a little surface noise now and then; David Stone Martin cover is a middling VG+ w/ little wear, no splits or extraneous writing.) ||| From what I’ve been able to discern from discographies: a New York studio session recorded in January 1955 featuring combo of Lawrence Brown, Emmett Berry, Leroy Lovett (p), Red Callender, J. C. Heard & Arthur Clarke (ts) doing the instrumentals. And then from a couple of West Coast 1952 sessions Ben Webster or Flip Phillips on the couple of vocals by Al Hibbler - This Love of Mine / This Is My Night To Love. /\ Five instrumental selections: Perdido / Mood Indigo / Squatty Roo / Rose Room / Blues for Basie. /||\ (#) Notes on the condition: I actually brought this thing at a garage sale many years ago for the unique and excellent David Stone Martin cover drawing of Rabbit. The record itself didn’t look all that great and in fact, I didn’t even play the thing for several years after I picked it up. I had the cover framed and one day a friend asked to hear it. I was dubious, but put it on the turntable and it sounded fine, in spite of many superficial scratches and marks! I’ve played it several times since and I’m continually surprised at the resilience of the vinyl. That not to say it plays perfectly, but not bad, not bad at all. || (*) Issue notes: Earlier issues appear to be 45-EPs. I’m in some confusion on later issues (as usual with Norman Granz’ labels), I think all or some of these were later issued as Norgran1090 and as "Perdido" on Verve. Whatever the case on the later issues, I think we can safely assume that this is the original 12-inch issue. || Note: so it does play like I described, but sold of a NO RETURN basis. Notes on mailing: U.S. Domestic Mail is now Zone Rated, meaning that distance is considered in rates. eBay provides a line in the auction-end ‘user form’ for the winner’s Zip Code (or mailing Country). Be sure to provide your Zip Code (or Country) in this line in order to save time in communications. /\ International Rates will be quoted after I get the package’s country of destination. (In general, most of "Western Europe" mailing charges are Air--$11.50; surface--$6.00.) /\ In regard to USA mailing, I can usually pack a 2-LP set or two single albums into a package for the same priority rate as one album. The first album is the $1.00 service charge (mailing plus $1.00). In the case of an extra album, the service charge is an additional fifty-cents (mailing plus $1.50). On the other hand for one album -- the slower "Media Mail" (or "book-rate") option will be a flat $3.50 S/H for most of the U.S. /\ "Doubling-up" on items will be an additional .50 cents, limit 2 albums. In the case of more than 2 albums, I will inform the winning bidder of the next applicable plateau. Note: Mailing and service charge(s) are NOT negotiable. 1.) I only use USPS.

2.) I guarantee that packages will be correctly addressed and safely packed. (That’s why I ask buyers to respond via email with their mailing address. I cut it out and tape it to the address label.)

3.) I will take NO Responsibility for LOSS of UNINSURED packages. I’ll say it another way, no refunds on lost packages, if they are not insured.

4.) I know that this can be a hardship, especially for International Buyers due to the prohibitive expense of mailing & insuring Parcel Post, which is the only way insured packages can be sent outside of the USA. Insurance is not available for the cheaper Letter-Post delivery. Yet keep in mind that out of about 2000 items that we’ve mailed throughout the world, only a mere handful (perhaps 5 or 6) has not been delivered. So the odds are extremely good that International Packages will arrive safely. But the buyer (domestic or international) is the one who takes the chance.

5.) This goes for domestic items too: no refunds on undelivered, uninsured packages. As to insured domestic packages: it is the responsibility of the buyer to collect insurance on these items. I will provide all appropriate sales documentation; and if necessary, the proper postal forms to the buyer.

Not to put too fine of a point on it -- but if you don’t feel that you can live with the above caveats -- don’t bid on my items.
