Description
- Very hard to find 1957 Johnny Otis deep groove monaural original LP “Rock And Roll Hit Parade Volume One” (Dig 104) with the first issue gold cover and light pink with black lettering deep groove label.
- This album, originally intended to be the first in a series with the Johnny Otis Orchestra playing rock and roll standards, was the only one of the series released. The songs were performed by his orchestra in the style of the original artists such as Little Richard, Fats Domino, Ray Charles, The Moonglows, The Crows, The Platters and other legendary early R & B artists.
- The tracklist is: Honey Love/Sh-Boom/Earth Angel/Gee/Sincerely/The Midnight Creeper/At My Front Door/Long Tall Sally/Only You/One Mint Julep/Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!/Please Don't Leave Me.
- I was very pleasantly surprised how well this LP played in spite of several sleeve scuffs and other marks that, for the most part, turned out to be superficial. The fidelity is surprisingly crisp and clear. There is a spot near the end of side 1, track 4 that skips ever so slightly with an audible tic. Aside from that you should expect some surface noise and an occasional light “tic”, none of which overwhelms the playback. The cover shows light wear on the front and a bit more wear and aging on the back with clear graphics and liner notes. There is wear and flaking on the top and bottom seams but no wear noted on the spine. A small (1 inch) split has started on the lower seam near the cover opening. A name is written discretely on one back corner that does not interfere with the graphics or liner notes.
