It has always been my deep and firm conviction that singing has a definite place in God’s plan for man. In the Old Testiment writings.we sing along with Mariam and the great host of Israel as they rejoiced and sang the song of Moses, because of their victory over Pharoah and the Red Sea. David, the shepard boy, and his harp, was often seen in the streets of Jerusalem and the courts of the King. And the beautiful and inspiring psalms of David became the hymn book of the Jewish people. The New Testiment begins with a song, when at the birth of Christ shepards sat watching their flocks, the Angels proclaimed his birth by singing, saying, ’’Glory to God in the Highest, Peace on Earth, Good Will Towards Men.” The earthly ministry of our Lord closes when on the night of the betrayal at the last supper, after fellowshipping with the Disciples, the scriptures say they sang a hymn. As we sing today from our church hymnals, we can easity see that the song writers of yesterday have kept in step with the revealed Word as the church came out of the dark ages under the ministry of Luther, Wesley, the fifth and sixth angel messengers according to Revelation 1:20.
