Ultra Rare Jokers Wild / Pink Floyd Single - Only 50 Issued ! - Why Do Fools Fall in Love / Don't Ask Me
As this item is so rare I am going to give as much information as possible to prospective buyers:
The record was included in a box of several hundred 1960's singles I bought from a friend who had cleared them from a deceased persons estate in the King's Lynn area. The records were in the attic of the house and most were in near mint condition - excepting the covers which were a bit mouse-eaten (I will be listing these separately in the Autumn - so watch this space !).
As I sorted through the records I came across this one which, as it had a handwritten label, I thought might be a demo or similar. You can imagine how pleased and excited I was to find it listed in the Rare Records Guide as one of the top ten rarest records !
I have researched this record as thoroughly as I can and have discovered the following information (courtesy of Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joker%27s_Wild_(band) :
Jokers Wild were a mid-1960s blues / rock band from Cambridge, England.
The lineup included guitarist David Gilmour, who went on to join Pink Floyd.
Their only releases were a privately-pressed, single-sided LP and single, of which only 50 copies each were made. A tape recording of the LP is held by the British Library's National Sound Archive.
The band played most of their gigs in the Cambridge area (only 38 miles from King's Lynn) - so it is most likely the record was given to the guy from whose estate it came because he was a friend or family member of one of the group. There is a slight possibility (sheer speculation on my part) that the bass guitarist, Tony Sainty, was from King's Lynn - as it is a local family name and a guy with the same name played junior football for the town in the mid-1940's. The hand written label looks the same as the one copy I have seen pictured on the Internet.
The pressing number on the "A" side (Why Do Fools Fall In Love) is RBS-0031-A and the flip side (Don't Ask Me) is RBS-0031B. Please note: the numbers are pressed into the disk - not scratched on !
The disk has some light scratches, the worst of which is on the "B" side, which I have tried to picture as best I can, but plays without skips and just a bit of background crackle on my trusty Dansette ( OK, so I know I shouldn't but it's all I have to test it on).
