A Tábua de Esméralda (The Emerald Tablet) makes a nice introduction to the artistry & alchemy of Jorge Ben. The cover of the LP borrows drawings from Nicholas Flamel, apparently a manuscript seller who was historically immortalised as a great alchemist for his work on the philosopher’s stone.
Includes 'O Homem da Gravata Florida', influenced by Paracelsus, the hit single 'Os Alquimistas Estão Chegando' (The Alchemists are Coming), 'Zumbi' honouring Zumbi dos Palmares, leader of a runaway slave colony in 17th-century Brazil, & 'Errare Humanum Est' which talks of space, gods, and astronauts! Phew
