Description
For auction here I have a first press copy of Joy Division's legendary debut LP Unknown Pleasures released on Factory Records,catalogue number is FACT 10. Not the mega rare translucent vinyl but the still very desirable 1st press from 1979 SOLID BLACK VINYL. The vinyl here is in simply stunning condition, bright and shiny as it was when pressed 34 years ago. Near mint except for one very light surface hairline which is no way feelable and definitely doesn't interefere with the listening experience. Pretty much as good as it gets. Matrix etchings are "This Is The Way" and "Step" consistent with a 1st press copy. Look at the pictures of the label. Absolutely NO spindlwear at all. Barely played.
Original textured Garrod & Lofthouse sleeve is looking a little tired with ringwear and edge wear though the spine text is still readable. Such a hard sleeve to find in anything like excellent condition now, and this one grades as VG condition. Not the best,but far from the worst I've had. Remember this is such a flimsy sleeve and any not housed in a plastic sleeve as this was will suffer with rubbing marks and ringwear.
Original rounded inner sleeve has some discolouration and ringwear as nearly all do so graded as being in a VG+ condition.
So to sum up, this is a great opportunity for someone to own a beautiful PLAYING COPY of Unknown Pleasures but certainly not a final upgrade copy for someone looking for the complete package in beautiful condition. I'm just being as honest as I can.
Record Collectors Grading System.
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.
POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
