Description
This was the first single by teenage Ronald Merrill aka Judah Eskender Tafari, recorded at Studio One on a brand new rhythm devised by Bagga Walker and Pablove Black, with Freddie McGregor behind the drum kit. The sax was overdubbed by an unknown player who swooped down from a hotel band on the north coast, played his lines, then disappeared. It was released in 1978 and swiftly became a sought after roots classic. The lyric quotes Isaiah 9:6 - "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." There was supposed to be an LP in 1979, but it never saw the light of day. Copies of this in good nick don't turn up often, so there's a sounclip added.
