Nostradamus is the 16th studio album by heavy metal band Judas Priest, released in 2008 through Epic Records for the European market and by Sony Music for the United States. It is his first conceptual album, which in two albums recounts the life and work of the 16th-century French prophetXVI, Michel de Nostradamus and in turn is the last with guitarist K.K. Downing who years later would resign from the band.
The production is characterized by the wide use of keyboards and synthesizers, played by musician Don Airey and the use of choirs that bring him closer to symphonic metal. It also includes some instrumental cuts and also in the song "Death" incursion into the doom metal.
After its publication he received a variety of criticisms both positive and negative, where they highlighted the ambitious vision of the project, but stressing that it should have been released as a simple album. However, he achieved great attention on the musical lists, mainly in Europe, where in several countries he positioned himself within the top 10.
Background
In 2007, Rob Halford in an interview with the radio show Friday Night Rocks reported that for several months they worked on a new studio album, focused on Nostradamus' life. In addition, he commented that in December 2005 when they were in Russia as the final part of the Retribution World Tour, his manager Bill Curbichley was the mentor to edit the concept album about the life and work of the French prophet.[ 1]
Recording
The first songs were written in mid-2006 at Worcestershire's The Old Smithy Worcestershirestudios in England, whose recording process ended in late 2007. In addition, and to add a darker tone, the band hired musician Don Airey who played the synthesizers and the keyboard. For its part, the production was carried out by the K.K guitarists. Downing and Glenn Tipton.[ 2]
In November 2007, the Bauwhaus Amsterdam studios were mixed, while the mastering was done in the aforementioned Bauwhaus Amsterdam and the Amsterdam Mastering, both studies located in Amsterdam in the Netherlands.[ It should be noted that even this process the edition of the album in double album format remained a r
