The Roland Rennie Collection

Coming up for the foreseeable future, is a record collection that is quite unique. It is the personal collection of the late great Mr. Roland Rennie who was the managing director at Polydor records in the UK during the 1960's and 1970's. There are some unique records, including 7 inch singles and LP's, along with Acetates, Demo's/Promo's and Factory sample records. Most are very early issues, if not the first to be produced. All of the main Polydor artists are present, including international and UK labels connected to Polydor.

In 1950, a young man named Roland Rennie joined EMI records in Hayes, Middlesex, UK. Roland quickly grew with the company and saw its success mushroom manyfold during the late 1950's and early 1960's.

During his 12 years at EMI, he held many positions and eventually became the right hand man to EMI managing director, L.G. Wood in 1959, and was closely involved with major affiliation switches by major American firms. He oversaw the changes from British Decca to EMI and of Liberty and United records. His experience would put him in the top 6 of most knowledgeable executives in the industry at that time.

In 1962, Roland was a member of the team reponsible for the conception of the 'Stateside' label, which became the outlet in the UK and many other countries for: Scepter, Vee Jay, Diamond, Swan, Laurie; and a dozen other U.S. ensigns.

In addition, under instruction from Sir George Martin, Roland was also the person responsible for The Beatles' entrance onto the American stage, and was directly involved in negotations for them to appear on the Ed Sullivan show for the first time.

In 1965, he left EMI to take up the position of managing director at Polydor records in the UK, and directly oversaw the signings to the label of: The Who, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Bee Gees, Sonny & Cher, Wilson Pickett, Ben E King, Otis Redding, The Drifters, Joe Tex, Patti and her Belles, Don Covay, Barbara Lewis and Soloman Burke, to name but a few.

On offer today, an excellent promotional copy of the 1978 UK stereo 12" Vinyl Lp by Judas Priest titled "Killing Machine" on the 1st press orange CBS label.

Side 1 condition:

Side 1 plays through beautifully with no jumps or sticks. There is some light background noise here and there, during quieter sections, but the quality of the vinyl still remains generally free of background noise. 9/10.

The surface and shine of the vinyl is near excellent with no hairlines or marks on the surface. 9/10

The CBS label on side 1 is in excellent condition, 9/10, with very little evidence of surface wear and only light wear around the centre hole. The text is stunning near mint with no fading.

Side 2 condition:

Side 2 plays through again beautifully with very little background noise throughout and no sticks or jumps. The transition from each song is wonderful, this is one of the reasons why we love vinyl more than any other format. 9/10.

The excellent plus shine and surface of the vinyl on side 2 is equal to that as described on side 1. There are no light marks or light lines and it is beautifully clean with no grease marks or dirt. 9/10

The CBS label on side 2  is in also in excellent condition, again 9/10. There is no discolouration or fading evident only with only light wear around the centre hole. The text remains visually strikingly bold with no obvious fading.

The inner sleeve is in excellent plus condition with no fading, no tears, no seam splits and no creasing  9/10.

The Demonstration copy outer sleeve is in Excellent condition condition overall with no splits, tears or major wear. The front panel is bright and clear of grease, dirt and creases. The spine has a little wear, with some creases and fading but the title reads perfectly.

The back panel with Promotional Demonstration stamp in the lower left hand corner, is again, clean and bright and free of major indentations in the laminate. There are no creases or discolouration and the track and credit listings read perfectly. There is a little bit of light fraying around the perimeter. 9/10.
