Released by Capitol Records on July 10, 1961, the double album showcases Garland's dynamic renditions of classics like "Over the Rainbow," "The Man That Got Away," and "Come Rain or Come Shine." The concert was a critical and commercial triumph, spending 13 weeks at number one on the Billboard album chart and remaining on the chart for a total of 73 weeks.
It also earned five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, making Garland the first woman to receive this honor. Notably, the audience was filled with celebrities such as Richard Burton and Marilyn Monroe, adding to the event's historic significance. The album has been reissued multiple times, including a 40th Anniversary Edition, and continues to be celebrated as one of the greatest live recordings in music history.
