This is a reproduction of a 10inch Julia Lee album, originally released in New Zealand in 1950 by Capitol Records. It's hard to believe, but this album is the best argument that American music was highly evaluated even on the far away islands in the Tasmanian Sea.

It was the year 1950, only five years after the end of World War II, and the world was still busy with its reconstruction and development. America was not destroyed by war, except for Pearl Harbor, and was able to be fully concentrate on the production of entertainment. American soldiers had bases all over the world, not only in occupied countries. They had bases even on the New Zealand islands resulting from their 'island hopping' during the Pacific campaign. Those soldiers brought American culture, American music, and of course Julia Lee! The world still suffered from an unprecedented 'Burnout' in the truest sense of the word and was also hungry for entertainment. Julia Lee's record 'Party Time' was at its place at the right time and made GIs and Kiwis happy!

The carefully reproduced original cover jacket gives us interesting informations on the back side. It's telling the history of its recordings and the story how Julia Lee became an acclaimed Kansas City Star after she started as an accompanying pianist in cabarets and cinemas. She arranged herself an evolution from Jazz music to Rhythm & Blues like no one else did. She presented her music from her home town Kansas City to the world. Last but not least with this album! First issued in the U.S. by Capitol, a New Zealand release followed soon in a slightly different version in the same year of 1950. Its original platter is a hard to find collector's item today due to small quantities in release.

The songs on ‘Julia Lee's Party Time’ are true dance numbers and a row of hits are included. King Size Papa and her world-famous R&B smash Snatch It And Grab It, I Didn't Like It The First Time (The Spinach Song) and Tell Me Daddy. The songs were recorded at Capitol Studios along with Julia Lee's band, The Boyfriends. She worked together with such great musicians as Red Norvo, Benny Carter, Vic Dickenson, Dave Cavanaugh, Baby Lovett, and Ernie Royal. These songs are all together not only milestones in music history but invite you to dance! Snatch it and grab it!

We added two bonus tracks to the songs of the original album to complete this reissue with another feature. Both bonus tracks, Oh, Chuck It (In A Bucket) and Lotus Bloom, date from the same period as the other songs on the album. This 10inch vinyl hot wax shows the famous Julia Lee sound mix of snappy swinging Jazz and dancefloor Rhythm & Blues that no one can elude from. A masterpiece in music history and a masterpiece in YOUR record collection!
