You are bidding on one of the best international hardcore punk records – this one from Finland and released in 1982 on Propaganda Records, this one is extremely collectable and is a must have for any serious KBD collector. 9 Track E.P., 33rpm, 16.24 minutes of international hardcore punk intensity.

Great new condition sleeve; mint condition black vinyl. First pressing. Original yellow jacket and instead of the typical 3mm poly bag is the original very Finnish waxpaper-like sleeve.

Background
Kaaos, like other great internationl hardcore bands such as Rattus, Lama, Tervet Kädet, Riistetyt, and Ohlo Seco (from Brazil) came into prominence in the very early 80’s rabidly promoted by folks like Jello Biafra and Pushead primarily through the pages of Maximum Rock and Roll. I can’t recall who I traded with to score this record, but it was probably one of those two guys. MRR really pushed the international scope of hardcore and identified a number of important bands that never would have been heard out of their respective countries. Kaaos was one of those bands hailing from Finland.

Finland was a little country in the neighborhood and shadow of the Soviet Union. Finland has never been a socialist country, but USSR made the country seem insignificant in comparison. Nevermind the size comparisons, Finland’s contributions to the punk world were enormous. In the early 1980’s the Finnish police were very aggressive. Organizing punk gigs and other happenings was very hard. In the height of the hardcore punk movement there were only 2-3 gigs/happening in a year but these happenings in Finland were really big. Everybody from all over the country came to them.

Kaaos began in the spring of 1980 in Tampere, Finland and when they began they were much like many beginning bands, not quite certain how to play their instruments, having lots of practices wasted with just fooling around and getting drunk. After countless practices like this the band started to take shape. Their main influences being the famous UK bands Disorder, Discharge, and American bands like Black Flag and The Germs. What came from the culmination of these influences and some original ideas was what is possibly the best band to ever come from Finland. With their unmatched insanity and chaos ridden (and mostly drunken) live performances Kaaos took Finland, Europe, and the world by storm. Their unique breed of Punk and Hardcore defined what is now known as Finnish Hardcore.

On a cold and bitter Finnish Halloween night in 1981 Kaaos layed down their first studio tracks for a split 7 inch with fellow Finn's Cadgers(later known as Riistetyt). The four tracks on the Kaaos side were filled with angst, agression, power, and speed clocking in at just under 5 minutes! Lyrics objecting to and calling out the Police, and fighting the tainted communist ideals of Russia at the time. Kaaos was speaking to everyone of their generation and understood what was on their minds. After the split with Cadgers, Kaaos decided to switch their guitarist, Jakke, over to singing instead. The abrasive vocals Jakke brought to the band would give them their signature sound.

A year later and after constant gigging around Sweden, Norway, and Finland Kaaos went back to the studio and recorded what is believed to be the best record they recorded, the "Totaalinen Kaaos" EP. Every song on this masterpiece showed Kaaos' maturity as a band and with song writing, not to mention their speed and Jakkes million dollar voice. “Totaalinen Kaaos” was one of the best selling Finnish Hardcore records of all time.

Kaaos continued to gig around Scandinavia, and even around Europe, including Germany, Poland, Holland, and France. They went on to record an LP and a Split LP before they played their last show in 1985. A few years later in 1993 Kaaos reformed with Jakke on vocals and some friends from other Finnish bands such as Bastards, Riistetyt, and Lama. They released the Nukke 7" in 1993 to celebrate their reformation. Nukke had been recorded 8 years earlier in 1985 but was never released due to financial difficulties. Now being back in the scene and gigging a few times a year Kaaos was playing to a whole new base of fans in Finland and Europe. New faces everywhere, Young punks who knew who Kaaos were. It was at this point Jakke really realized that Kaaos was no longer just a band, but a legacy.

In 2000 Kaaos went into the studio for the first time in 15 years to record blazing split 7" with Svart Agression. Kaaos proved they were no longer just a traditional Finnish Hardcore but could keep up with the new punk bands of the day. Until late 2002 Kaaos were an active band but as they say "All good things must come to an end", Kaaos finally called it quits after a 21 year legacy that will never be forgotten. There has been talk of Kaaos playing a few shows in Finland for the annual "Puntala Rock" festival but it has yet to be seen.

The vinyl is in mint condition. Please email if you need more pictures. The sleeve is in extremely good condition. I think you'd be very hard pressed to find one in better condition than this one. Even when it was released it was scarce record.
