Description
THE KAPLAN BROTHERS:Nightbird (Quinton/1978 or 79)
Beyond brilliant slab of reality that I choose as one ofmy top ten LPs in the Acid Archives book. The Kaplan Brothers were an extraordinary lounge band whose third LP is the magnum opus, an amazing electronic symphony (as they subtitled the LP) that trounces across various musical styles with an amazing mixture of originals and cover versions of songs as varied as the styles. Thick harmonies meld with layers of synthesizers and guitars to form a unique "orchestra". Whistling fades in and out like listening to an Ennio Morricone soundtrack while on acid.
An old Russian folk standard, here titled Vodka and Caviare flows easily into King Crimson's Epitaph. The two merge for an incredible finale. This then effortlessly flows into a Kaplan rewrite of the Cascades Rhythm of the Rain, here titled Listen to the Falling Rain.
The cover is VG (ringwear and staining on front & back; small splits on both seams that don't go all the way through to the cardboard; heavy damage along 2/3 of spine that has been very discretely taped;some creasing near bottom corners). The record looks and plays Ex (small amount of light hairlines on each side; some crackling at beginning of second song on side 1).
All LPs now cleaned on a VPI machine.
