Wagner - Der Fliegende Hollander Bayreuth Festival Orch & Chorus cond Karl Bohm DGG 2709 040 3LP Box set Records are VG++, Cover is VG some damage on two corners, drill hole Signed in black marker by GWYNETH JONES, THOMAS STEWART, KARL RIDDERSBACH and conductor KARL BOHM, all signatures are clear except Bohm whose is somewhat obscured because he has signed it over the title. All signatures have been coated over with a clear preservative A nice Wagnerian ensemble
Bohm although he conducted important works for both the Bavarian and Hamburg State Opera he came to prominence during his tenure at the Semper Opera in Dresden here he replaced an ousted Fritz Busch, removed by the upcoming Nazi regime. He conducted many premiers of Richard Strauss in including Daphne, which was dedicated to him. He also worked at Salzburg and the Vienna State Opera during under Hitler. After the war he conducted at La Scala, Teatro Colon, and Dresden. In 1957 he began his long and distinguished career with the Metropolitan Opera in New York. He specialized in German repertoire and conducted 262 performances. He also was guest conductor at Bayreuth and with the LSO. Although he never joined the Nazi party he was a Hitler supporter, a fact that dogged him most of life, and been the subject of much speculation, attributing his complicity to the advancement of his career rather than his personal conviction
