Brief Info: Third album and another wonderful set from one of the most inventive female artists ever, totalling justifying Dave Gilmours confidence in her. Often new artists issue a very impressive debut, then fade away, nothing could be further from this with Kate, her albums went from strength-to-strength and even today, is still very popular. Breaking new boundaries of creativity with more complex music and styles and beautifully packaged. This hardly played record sounds fantastic and is a top quality pressing. This set should again please fans of this unique English rose, a rare, precious and above all else, original artist.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(+): an unlaminated gatefold format with semi-gloss, varnished surfaces. Printed and made in England by Garrod & Lofthouse.

Cover Front & Back: Lovely artwork and with barely any wear at all. Spectacular artwork seen to nigh-on maximum advantage. A few quite fine edge surface creases and a fairly gentle rim rub near the top edge of the back, but little else.

Cover Inner Gatefold: As close to perfect as they get and more beautiful graphics along with the song lyrics.

Top Edges: Practically unworn and very straight too.

Bottom Edges: Almost the same again.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, mostly very sharp with barely any hint of wear, no thickening and just one small burr a little below centre. Record enters on the back edge, both are guaranteed untrimmed.

Spine and Text: Little short of Mint: solid and thick, straight with no compression, folded squarely so the edges meet up very closely together and parallel. This makes a considerable difference for the more discerning collector as they always look neater. All text is perfect and unworn.

Corners: Any tip rubbing is tiny, all retain excellent to near mint shape.

Cover Summary: A very strong all-round example of this spectacular early 80’s cover, one that will prove very difficult to find much better. Only the better stored examples will match this and most collectors will enjoy it.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT(++): there merest hint of crinkle near the top and one tiny tone spot, this being somewhat critical on a thin paper unlined EMI inner sleeve. As clean as new with no splits, tears (or repairs), even the shaped recessed top opening is crisp. This date-coded 780 so within a month or so of issue reitterating this record was one of the first batch made.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: MINT(-): clearly hardly handled or played and this is barely run-in in vinyl terms. A superb visual copy that is very clean, shiny, intense black and fairly solidly pressed. Never an easy title to find quite this clean and it plays beautifully. Even under light, minimal surface traces, the reason being, the one-and-only original owner immediately put the record inside a lined replacement sleeve to protect the surfaces. Which is also the reason the inner sleeve has survived in such impressive and unsplit condition as well. Visually a super record that should please most-all collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This beautiful EMI record plays up to it’s high visual grading with nothing to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. A genuine hi-fi quality recording with Kate’s unique vocals offering a real in-the-room quality as does the backing. Any surface sounds barely even registered and few will better it. Both channels are clean and sharp, I feel very sure this record has been played very lightly and has been well stored and carefully handled, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. No pressing noises or unwanted sounds, nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record. This copy will prove very difficult to find significantly better and most fans of this beautifully unique artist will love it.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
