Kate Bush's first album, The Kick Inside, released when the singer/songwriter was only 19 years old (but featuring some songs written at 15 and recorded at 16), is her most unabashedly romantic, the sound of an impressionable and highly precocious teenager spreading her wings for the first time.
The centrepiece is "Wuthering Heights," which was a hit everywhere except the United States (and propelled the Emily Brontë novel back onto the best-seller lists in England), but there is a lot else here to enjoy: The disturbing "Man with the Child in His Eyes," the catchy rocker "James and the Cold Gun," and "Feel It," an early manifestation of Bush's explorations of sexual experience in song, which would culminate with "Hounds of Love."
As those familiar with the latter well know, she would do better work in the future, but this is still a mightily impressive debut.

LABELS: Clean, bright and fresh labels with just 2/3 light spindle traces on Side Two, none on Side One. The original owner has applied a 'star' stamp to the Side One label (but it's not too distracting - please see photos) otherwise, NEAR MINT
VINYL Visual: Both surfaces retain their original deep gloss and shine like new - there are one or two superficial light marks but these are purely cosmetic and have no audio consequence - EXCELLENT+
VINYL Audio: Deep, rich, warm and strong audio reproduction on this first pressing (a very impressive EMI cut) with a crystal clear and detailed sound. On my one careful play-check at loud volume it sounds absolutely sensational with the only audio issue of note being 2 seconds of crackle at the very, very end of the fade out to 'Wuthering Heights' - there is no evidence for this on the vinyl surface so I assume it must be a pressing issue - otherwise, there are no scratches, no other surface noise and no loud clicks or pops. This is a really beautiful copy and in my experience, surprisingly hard to find playing this well. Critically graded NEAR MINT for audio - gorgeous
SLEEVE: The original deeply laminated and deeply glossy (and very flat) sleeve has a glass-like finish to both the front and back and is clean, sharp and fresh with all spine text clear and bold. There are some light creases to the spine and three half-moon creases towards the opening edge (nothing major) - EXCELLENT++
