Description

KENNY BURRELL with ART BLAKEY - ON VIEW AT THE FIVE SPOT CAFE

Super rare and overall lovely conditiojn original US 1st press jazz gem with excellent MONO sound quality

Year/Label : 1960 US Blue Note Label number : BLP 4021 Matrix numbers : BN.LP-4021.A, BN.LP-4021.B  with "RVG" and the Plastylite P "Ear" stamped into both run-off's
Solid very good plus (VG+) condition vinyl - weighty, completely flat and retaining a beautiful jet black lacquered sheen. It is only with close scrutiny under a bright light that just a few wispiest of wispy small hairlines and extremely faint paper scuff lines/marks come into view on each side - each non-feelable, each surface only, and all appearing to be purely superficial and not impinging upon the wonderful MONO sound quality at all.  Each label is excellent (EX) with the only blemishes being a few small and extremely faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label. Note the circular deep grooves and "47 WEST 63rd NYC" text on each label, synonymous with very first pressings.   A very good plus (VG+) condition original and iconic outer sleeve, complete with very 1st press "47 West 63rd St., New York 23" horizontal text at the bottom of the reverse side of the sleeve. The sleeve is made from thick cardboard and remains in overall impressive and solid very good plus condition : rigid edges a single 1cm scuff on the top edge and intermittent mild but clearly noticeable scuff marks on the bottom edge, nicely defined right-angled corners with mild rubbing on each, firm opening edges with no fraying, no creasing, no unwanted writing, and all colours, front photo, and reverse side text remain crisp and with near perfect definition still. The spine is firm with just a few tiny "nicks", there is a 1cm split at the bottom right corner, and althouigh the reverse side is overall excellent there is a rectangular mark adjacent to the top edge where a sticker has been removed. Do take a good look at my photos where I always try to provide a fair and accurate appraisal of the sleeve cover. Not quite perfect then, but still fully functional, still eminently presentable, and still totally iconic! Excellent (EX) MONO sound quality with no sticks, skips, repeats, or distortion, just the very occasional and barely noticeable very, very light click (no-doubt caused by a speck or two of dust caught in the grooves through decades of storage) and any crackle is at an absolute minimum - very occasional, very very background, and certainly not sufficient to impinge upon a great listen...the sound quality really is impressive - crystal clear MONO with jazz legends TINA BROOKS (tenor sax), Kenny Burrell (guitar), Bobby Timmons & Roland Hanna (piano), Ben Tucker (bass) and Art Blakey (drums) in top form.  Comes with original "27 YEARS BLUE NOTE" inner sleeve which has noticeable creasing at the top two corners, a 9cm split in the middle of the bottom edge, and some fraying and tears on the top edges.. Note that I always ship the vinyl in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original.
Hard to find Blue Note 1st pressing : hard to believe that this is 65 years of age, especially considering the truly impressive mono sound quality with every track a great listen. Cool jazz at it's very best!
