Description

Up for auction is a nice, clean copy of the rare Kenny Drew Quintet album "This Is New" released on Riverside Records (RLP 12-236) in 1957.  This is an authentic and original deep groove MONO first pressing on the correct white Riverside label.  No "Inc." on label, as it should be.  Correct 553 W. 51st St. New York 19, N.Y. address on back cover.  Front cove is in great shape.  The lamination is fully intact, no tear, no bubbles, no lifts, no losses.  Retains much of its original attractive shine.  No ring wear to speak of.  Seams are tight, intact, no cracks, no splits.  Corners are sharp, not bumped.  Upper left and right corners show a tiny bit of rubbing.  Back cover looks clean, mostly bone-white, with a minor amount of aging.  Small stamp "New" in red in upper left corner.  Small pinkish dot in upper right (see photo).  No writing, no ring wear, no tears, no spotting.  I'd grade the cover Near Mint Minus (NM-). The vinyl is in equally nice, clean shape.  No obvious scratches, scuffs, or marks on it.  Nice original shine still intact.  No marks around the spindle holes.  Does show some signs of being taken in and out of the paper inner sleeve, though I doubt this record has been played more than a few times.  I've play tested the record, and it sounds great.  A small amount of surface noise in the lead in groove (of course), but it quickly disappears, and is quiet the rest of the way.  Plays beautifully, nice clean mono, full-bodied sound.  I'd grade the vinyl Near Mint Minus (NM-). 100% guaranteed, risk free buying, or money back.  No questions asked.  This is one of the great Jazz sessions ever for Riverside, with Hank Mobley, Donald Byrd, and Wilbur Ware.  A must-have for any serious jazz collector, and still very much affordable.
