Description

Khan Jamal Creative Art Ensemble-Drum Dance To The Motherland LP

Original 197? Dogtown records (no catalog number / matrix side A: dogtown 3 / matrix side B: dogtown 4) - hand made jacket

Incredibly rare album by Khan Jamal, released on Byard Lancaster's Philadelphia based Dogtown Records. I have never seen another copy of this record, and I've been looking for 15 years, nor can I find any information about this on the internet. Out of this world space-jazz-funk, everything at some point seems to be running through space echoes or delays, guitar playing is psychedelic, lots of free percussion, some funky bass, and incredible vibes/marimba/clarinet from Khan Jamal. This sounds a lot like Sun Ra at his freakiest, it's heavy swirling free-jazz from space.

Khan Jamal: vibes/marimba/clarinet, Dwight James: drums/glochenspiel/clarinet, Alex Ellison: drums/percussion, Bill Mills: fender bass/bass, Monnette Sudler: guitar/percussion

Tracks: Cosmic Echos (5:07), Drum Dance To The Motherland (11:46), Inner Peace (15:58), Breath of Life (7:56)

CONDITION: vinyl VG++ (a few light surface marks, but plays excellent) / cover VG (shows wear/top and bottom seams split 4 inches)
