KILIMANJARO - kata kata - kelefa KE 0001
Unknown Tanzanian LP and a big surprise as 99% of the recorded music from Tanzania is not funk and jazz but rather inspired primarily by Congolese rumba and local styles. This band though was one of a handful that looked well beyond the borders and recorded this gem with a few seriously funky cuts, including 'Asante' which sounds like it ran away from a jam session with Prince and the Revolution, and a handful of other crossover tunes characterised by dope synths and funky drums. Private press (UK) that has been totally off the radar until it was recently used in Gioumanne's 'Afro Cosmic Club' mix for Crack Magazine (UK).
