It may be divided into demos and live recordings, but Extremities as a whole captures the notorious West London dub punk crew Killing Joke as they pivot from a commercially disastrous experimental album and personnel departures, back to their distinctively jagged punk sound. The first side collects the fabled 'Black Cassette' demos, recorded in Chicago at the house of Steve Albini, while the second documents a secret live show in Birmingham in December 1988, where the new sound is given a low key try out. Both are, needless to say, essential listening for any Killing Joke fan.
