Why this never appeared on a garage punk compilation is puzzling: it’s snot-snot-snotty, barely coherent and has that kinetic teenage Vox-Continental a-go-go rhythm that many tried for and only glimpsed for a moment. As for Fowley, he caught it barehanded and wrestled it to the studio floor in one take. “Reincarnation” is well worth the price of admission, and has recently surfaced on Rev-Ola’s “Mondo Hollywood: Kim Fowley’s Jukebox” compilation. I’m sure “Love Is Alive And Well” was cut within a week’s time as Fowley was known for his economy in the studio -- contrasted by the self-penned liner notes that take up a good portion of the back sleeve:”Love is alive an’ well. Our return to the innocence of childhood is the only flash of beauty and light upon the cropless field of life on which many of us may live.”

You see what I mean with that earlier ‘sincerity’ thing? It’s impossible to sum up Kim Fowley. But I’ll try: he’s a rock’n’roll enigmaniac like Iggy Pop meets Guy Stevens on the corner of Z-Man Barzell and Phil Spector who worked with The Soft Machine and appeared onstage at the Roundhouse in 1972 during a Deviants reunion gig singing “Pappa Ooo Mow Mow.”

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG++. A few light abrasions  ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly  insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)            The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)             Mono pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more  preferable to its FAKE ("electronically rechannelled") stereo counterpart. We estimate that FAKE stereo copies of this album outnumber monos by a ratio of at least 10:1.

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD+(+)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 4

-         Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging  (nothing significant).

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the seams (nothing significant)

-         Cover has a visible wrinkle (crease) in the cardboard base on the front panel  (a very common construction problem with almost all Capitol/Tower mid-'60s  covers)

-         Cover has a tiny, barely visible cutout hole in one of the corners

-         Cover has a partially split bottom seam (less than 1 inch / 2.5 centimeters)

-         Cover has two corners slightly worn (nothing significant)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No writing

-        No stamps

-        No peel-off marks

-        No stains

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
