Description

This is your chance to own a much sought after vinyl record by:
KING CRIMSON
IN THE COURT OF THE CRIMSON KING an Observation by KING CRIMSON
Island Records ILPS9111 vinyl LP album, first pressing with pink label and white i.
Released: 10 Oct 1969 Genre: Rock Style: Prog Rock, Symphonic Rock

Condition is Used.

This record has been kept in a cool dry cupboard and un-played for well over 40 years having been purchased by me in 1969/1970 and then carried off to university and subsequent houses in a record box.
I have not played it, to check track quality, as I no longer have a respectable turntable fearing that one of today's modern USB record decks would act more like a plastic milling machine.  My comments below are therefore based on a close visual inspection only.  I have not cleaned the disc.
Disc:
The Island Records label is pink with the white I  outlined in black.
Side 1 has no visible surface scratches with a few light fingerprints.  The Matrix / Runout is stamped ILPS 9111 A?2 1 2 9
Side 2 has one light linear surface mark (I hesitate to call it a scratch) approximately 4cm in length starting from the middle of track 2 and extending into the runout central label area.  Once again there are a few light fingerprints.  The Matrix / Runout is stamped ILPS 9111 B//4 1 1 6
The photographs hopefully give some idea of the condition of the vinyl disc.
The closest I can find on Discogs.com (https://www.discogs.com/King-Crimson-In-The-Court-Of-The-Crimson-King-An-Observation-By-King-Crimson/release/2287669)  is:

  • Matrix / Runout (Side A runout stamped (variant 5)): ILPS 9111 A?2 1 2 3
  • Matrix / Runout (Side B runout stamped (variant 5)): ILPS 9111 B//4 1 1 6

  • Which I understand means that this is classed by some as a "first" pressing.

Sleeve:
The sleeve is in good condition with some slight discolouration and light creasing as expected with age.
Cover:
The cover was printed and made by E. J. Day London.
It is reasonable condition with some rubbing on edges and corners.  The cardboard is smooth, clean and "crisp" with no creases or bowing and all glued seams and joints in good condition.  The upper left corner of the front has an ~8mm diameter blemish where I had stuck a label to identify my record. The print registration of inner gatefold image is poor with upwards of 6-8mm horizontal and vertical shifts in the individual colour layers; this may be by design as it was the psychedelic era but it makes the lyrics difficult to read.
Please inspect the photographs carefully.
For shipping I will place the record in plastic wrapping and pack in double stiff corrugated packaging.
