KING CRIMSON - IN THE WAKE OF POSEIDON
LABEL : ISLAND ILPS 9127
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN : Gt. BRITAIN YEAR : 1970 MATRIX : A1 / B1 (Usually indicates an early first pressing)
VINYL RECORD - VISUAL & AUDIO: EX- / VG- : Visual - obviously been played before but generally an excellent looking record for its age - excellent minus for visual. Audio - no major deterioration in overall sound quality and generally not a bad sounding record - however there are some crackles during the quiet intros on both sides - also a brief passage of intermittent ticks during the quiet intro that starts midway through side two - there also might be a tiny skip at the end of track three on side one (Cadence and Cascade) I say 'might be' because I'm not familiar with this particular album that is rather eclectic and experimental in style which meant that I almost missed it initially when I was first listening to the record - it really is that slight - a small but unexpected note change - and as I say I'm not familiar with this album at all so for all I know this is not a skip at all and is in fact the way this particular track plays out - so theres a good chance I'm mistaken and its not a tiny skip at all. Anyway, overall a very good minus for audio (minus for that possible skip).
OUTER GATE-FOLD COVER: VG- : Gate-fold cover with lyrics printed just inside - signs of age and wear due to storage over the years - wear to the corners/edges and to the spine - a tiny penned name and address to the top right-hand corner just inside the gate-fold - but no real major defects - very good minus for the outer cover.
INNER SLEEVE : G : Original plain paper inner sleeve - again signs of age and wear - tanned and creased - overall a good for the inner sleeve.
* All records arrive in a protective polythene sleeve'.*
Vinyl Record Grading System
I aim to describe records as accurately as possible and try to avoid disappointment by playing all records before listing them. I grade them as conservatively as I can using the UK Record Collector Grading Guide below - however please bear in mind that grading vinyl records is not an exact science and is a very subjective task (what may sound great to me may not sound so great to you and visa versa of course) - therefore if you are not satisfied with your purchase, please contact me before leaving any negative feedback and I will always do my best to sort out any problems - I am only human and unintended mistakes can occur. Also, please be mindful that some vinyl records regardless of their condition can still have an occasional very tiny tic due to the physical nature of the medium - thank you.
Record Collector Magazine's Grading Guide:
MINT (M): The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.
VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.
POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler."
For records which appear to fall between the accepted grades, + and - will be added to the grading..
