KING CRIMSON
"IN THE WAKE OF POSEIDON"
ULTRA RARE first UK pressing containing the withdrawn version of "In The Wake Of Poseidon (Including Libra's Theme)", which is longer than that of later pressings (8'26" vs. 7'56"). This LP is VERY RARE as sold in minimum amounts and was soon replaced by the next pressing with the shorter version of this song. This longer version was reissued for the first time 40 years later as part of the 40th anniversary set.

This is a genuine UK 1st Pressing of this increasingly scarce record by King Crimson titled "In the Wake of Poseidon" on the rare 1st Pressing PINK "i" ISLAND label with the withdrawn version of "In the wake of Poseidon".
The vinyl is VISUALLY graded in very good condition. Please see below a description of grades and note that this vinyl is over 55 years old that has been played and will not transform into anything different to the condition stated.
The 1st Pressing PINK "i" ISLAND label is in excellent condition.
The outer textured gatefold sleeve is in very good plus condition.
The spine is in very good plus condition and partially feathered.
King Crimson opened 1970 scarcely in existence as a band, having lost two key members (Ian McDonald and Michael Giles) and with a third (Greg Lake) about to leave.
Their second album — largely composed of Robert Fripp's songwriting and material salvaged from their stage repertory ("Pictures of a City" and "The Devil's Triangle") — is actually better produced and better sounding than their first.
Surprisingly, Fripp's guitar is not the dominant instrument here: The Mellotron, taken over by Fripp after McDonald's departure — and played even better than before — still remains the band's signature. The record doesn't tread enough new ground to precisely rival In the Court of the Crimson King.
Fripp, however, had made an impressive show of transmuting material that worked on stage ("Mars" aka "The Devil's Triangle") into viable studio creations, and "Cadence and Cascade" may be the prettiest song the group ever cut.
"The Devil's Triangle," which is essentially an unauthorized adaptation of "Mars, Bringer of War" from Gustav Holst's The Planets, was later used in an eerie Bermuda Triangle documentary of the same name.

Visually-graded vinyl: A visual grading will identify physical flaws (such as scratches) and can help determine whether a record has been cared-for properly. A visual grading will not identify noise or crackle caused by non-visible sources. Most of the records I sell are between thirty and sixty years old and so it is likely that there may be some background noise even if they look perfect.
Play-grading MONO records: Mono records and stereo records have different grooves. A stereo record produces a stereo sound via both lateral and vertical groove modulation whereas a mono record is not intended to produce any sound from vertical modulation. Playing a mono record with a stereo cartridge will create distortion because it is trying to pick-up the vertical (stereo) part of the signal, whereas this is not intended to be heard on a mono record and so is just noise. Using a pre-amp with a mono switch will eliminate the noise caused by vertical modulation leaving just the lateral groove signal which is how the record was intended to be heard. If you do not have a mono switch on your amp or pre-amp you will be reproducing the noise from the vertical part of the signal and so the record will not sound as good. This is not any fault of the record, it is inherent to playing any mono record through a system that it was not designed for.

Near Mint
Cover - Looks virtually new with signs of handling- Minor wear creases but no marks or damage. Light sleeves may show slight discoloration due to age.
Disc - May have minor scuffs &/or hairline scratches probably caused by moving record in & out of paper sleeve
Excellent
Cover - Signs of wear on edges/spine, corners or ring wear. No damage caused by sticker removal/residue.
Disc- The record has been played and has light marks &/or hairline scratches and paper scuffs.
Very good
Cover - Moderate edge/spine or ring wear. Corners may be a little blunt. Opening edge may show feathering caused by removal of record. Visible creases or laminate lift. Localised sticker removal damage.
Disc - The record has been played frequently and has noticeable surface marks, occasional light scratches and paper scuffs.
Good
Cover - Heavy ring or edge/spine wear. Corners noticeable bashed. Heavy creases. Considerable laminate/surface damage.
Disc - The record looks very well played and the sound quality has probably deteriorated noticeably. A lot of surface marks/scratches. Usually used as collection filler
