KING CRIMSON ~ In The Court of the Crimson King (An observation by King Crimson. Island Records ILPS 9111. 1969.
 
Beautiful early second pressing of this Iconic LP on the “Palm Tree” or “Pink Rim” label.  The stampers are the of the style (Orlake pressing plant?) +A3 suffix rather than A//3. This is a known and reasonably scarce variation where there are no copyrights mentioned on the label.  The label is also has lightly textured feel to and the sleeve is made by EJ Day, complete with the “i” logo, so an early example!!   
 
Grading: -
 
Outer Sleeve: EX- to EX
 
The sleeve is graded as EX-.  It is a very clean example with no major faults.  The top and bottom edges have some moderate shelf wear and there is some mild wear to the rear cover, but the sleeve is still in nice clean condition overall with no writing, splits, tears or unsightly damage.
 
Vinyl (Visual): EX+  Audio : EX+ to Near Mint
 
The Vinyl is in EX+ condition. There are just a few feint hairlines ,only visible when the record is held up to strong light.  This is a really fantastic copy which has been cared for over the past 48 years or so. The vinyl weighs in at a very heavy 158g. A  very solid pressing with the original gloss still very much intact. Totally superb.
 
Vinyl – Audio. EX+ / NM  The playback is quite superb, one of the quietest copies I’ve heard for many years. There is virtually no background noise to interfere with the superb dynamic audio playback.  Even on the track “Moonchild” the level of background noise is at a minimum. So hard to find a copy of this LP that plays this well. Superb.

Side 2: ILPS 9111 + B3 Pecko (etched)
 
Labels : Near Mint
 
The slightly textured labels are totally clean and graded at Near Mint. Superb.
 
Inner Sleeve: The original inner sleeve is included although it has been folded in a couple of places at some point and has a strange colouration as a result!
 
Overall this is a really nice second press copy of this iconic album.
 
Postage and Packing:
 
All records are placed in a separate poly lined inner and stored flat outside the sleeve and then placed sealed in a re-sealable polythene outer prior to shipping.  Records are then placed between square cardboard sheets before packaging into cruciform mailers especially designed for LP’s. These mailers are a high-grade type which reinforce the edges around the LP and as such
they are larger and weigh more than standard mailers.  My postage costs reflect the additional size and weight of the packaging that I use.
