Description
A CLASSIC of early jazz, a piece of the rock: LOUIS ARMSTRONG AND HIS HOT FIVE doing "KING OF THE ZULU'S (sic) (at a Chitlin' Rag)," backed with "LONESOME BLUES."
LOUIS ARMSTRONG, cornet / KID ORY, trombone / JOHNNY DODDS, clarinet / LIL ARMSTRONG, piano / JOHNNY ST. CYR, banjo, CLARENCE BABCOCK, hilarity!
"Zulus" is a heady mixture of vaudevillian horsing around by Clarence Babcock, the "Jamaican Immigrant," Louis and Lil Hardin, with straight-ahead red-hot jazz from all hands! I treasure my copy!
This is perhaps the rarest of the OKehs. It only appeared as a "TrueTone," never a later pressing until 1934, and that one is dubbed.
[n. b. Later: I was wrong about the above! An informed collector reminded me that OKeh 8396 DID appear in a superbly master-pressed laminated edition in 1933! Ooh! I WANT one!]
This original 1926 "TrueTone" OKeh is in even-playing V to VV+ condition. No damage or blasting; mostly needle wear.

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!
