How often will an opportunity present itself to own a peice of music history and original 1 of 1 early recording of an artist whose career would encompass millions of records sold and a place in the Country Music Hall of Fame. This recording of China Nights by a just returned Korean War veteran 6 months after his discharge from the Army in March 1954 was performed at King Records in Cincinnati Ohio with in house musicians and this being that recording, dated and name misspelled by King Recording on the sleeve. The shellac on aluminum disc is true to the era, the recording mono and although representative of Curless talent, it was his later releases A Tombstone Every Mile then his 1957 Capitol release of a polished and well engineered rerecording of China Nights that charted at this time.
This disc has been reviewed and acknowledged as legitimate by the curator of the archives at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville. Other COA and vetting is included on this record.

Upon release from the US Army in March 1954 he returned to Maine to pursue his career in music. Cincinnati Ohio is where a mutual acquaintance owned King Records, a storefront recording studio not unusual for the era. With a house band of musicians, this mono recording of the classic song was captured on Oct 16 1954. The medium is a shellac recording material on an aluminum disc with paper sleeve.
The record has been reviewed and acknowledged by the audio curators at the CMHOFA in Nashville TN as
original and of historic significance. The condition is in a next play last play condition. The recording will require re-engineering and remastering given the DAW programs available this is not uncommon on any remastering.
B Side is blank without any recorded material. Tape on center label from era.
Curless made his break with A Tombstone Every Mile. It wasn't until 1967 he released China Nights on Capitol Records with a polished band and recording studio and again in 1974. This master was made for Curless in 1954 and is truly a peice of country music history and Curless career.
