KISS ANIMALIZE Animalize Insert Japanese Edition LP Record
"Animalize" is the 12th studio album of American rock band Kiss. It was released by Mercury Records in 1984.
This is the only appearance of lead guitarist Mark St. John, who joined Vinnie Vincent in April 1984.
At the time of the release of this album, Gene Simmons was pursuing an acting career. Therefore, Paul Stanley was mainly in charge of album production and direction.
New guitarist Mark St. John said the album was recorded using Rockman's equipment and intensely equalizing to mute "Boston."
St. John was diagnosed with reactive arthritis and was forced to leave Kiss during a subsequent tour.
He left the band in November 1984 and became the third lead guitarist in two years.
When asked what "animalize" means, Stanley replies that it's not fun for humans to look like computers and "press a button to make music."

Following the commercial resurgence of Kiss that began with Lick It Up, Animalize received Platinum certification from the RIAA.
It has become the best-selling Kiss album since "Dynasty" in 1979.
However, critics and longtime fans have criticized Animalize for the band's continued transition to glam metal style.
During this time, Simmons had intensified conflicts with band members for a variety of reasons, most of which felt lacking in commitment to the band and Tommy Thayer was at the time. Producing and managing other rock groups such as Black'n Blue, appearing as a radio DJ in the movie "Trick or Treat", co-starring in "Runaway", various business ventures, etc. It was due to being absorbed in the project.
"Heaven's on Fire" became the biggest hit on the album (and one of the only songs on the band's live setlist since the 1980s), and the music video was heavily rotated on MTV. The song is also Mark St. John's only music video appearance.
Guitar World magazine has put the album on the list of "New Sensations". Selected as "50 Iconic Albums That Defined 1984".
