Description
★ 1985 STERLING-MASTERED VINYL / ORIGINAL MAKEUP-ERA COVER ★
KISS – Creatures of the Night
Interesting player copy combining the 1985 U.S. Mercury/PolyGram reissue vinyl with the earlier original-style 1982 makeup cover and lyric inner sleeve.
The record itself is the 1985 Mercury reissue, catalog 422 824 154-1 M-1, identifiable in part by its Mercury labels and revised running order, with “Killer” moved to Side 1 and “Saint and Sinner” moved to Side 2. Documented copies of this 1985 edition were mastered at Sterling Sound.
VINYL: STRONG VG
Surprisingly nice vinyl considering the condition of the packaging. There are some light surface scratches, scuffs/smudges and normal signs of handling, but nothing that prevents this from being a very enjoyable player copy.
Play tested. Sounds great overall. Very little light background noise here and there. No major playback problems noted.
Dead Wax / Pressing Details:
Side 1:
422-824-154-1-AS-HRM
STERLING
Separate B-1 marking
Side 2:
422-824-154-1-BS
Separate B- marking
Additional small dead-wax markings as shown in photos.
The STERLING stamp indicates mastering/cutting work associated with Sterling Sound. I have not attributed this particular copy to a specific pressing plant because its runout markings differ from the documented PRC Richmond variant. The known PRC version actually carries PRC in its matrices.
OUTER COVER: G
Original 1982-style KISS makeup cover. This one has definitely lived a rock & roll life. There is substantial edge and corner wear, surface scratching, tearing/loss along the top, and staple/pin holes from having apparently been displayed on a wall. Despite the wear, the jacket remains intact and still presents reasonably well from the front. Please examine photos carefully for condition.
ORIGINAL LYRIC INNER SLEEVE: G / ROUGH
Included, but heavily worn. Two seams have completely separated and there is considerable edge wear/tearing. It is included primarily for completeness.
IMPORTANT: This is not an all-original 1982 pressing. The package consists of 1985 Mercury reissue vinyl housed with the earlier makeup-era cover and lyric sleeve.
The vinyl is easily the star here — a strong VG, great-playing copy for someone more interested in listening than having a pristine jacket.
Record will be shipped outside the jacket in a new anti-static inner sleeve, with the original outer jacket and lyric sleeve also included, securely packed in a proper record mailer.
PLAY TESTED - SOUNDS GREAT!
