This isn’t a later reissue. It’s an original 1978 US Terre Haute pressing of KISS’s first greatest-hits collection, issued right in the middle of the band’s original makeup-era phenomenon.

And Double Platinum isn’t simply somebody grabbing tracks from the earlier albums and throwing them onto two records.

Several songs were remixed for this release, and “Strutter” was actually re-recorded as “Strutter ’78.” That makes Double Platinum its own piece of the original KISS catalog rather than just another compilation.

Then there’s the packaging. Casablanca didn’t exactly go subtle here: the original edition came wrapped in that instantly recognizable reflective silver gatefold with embossed KISS artwork and logos. It’s pure late-’70s KISS—big, flashy and completely unapologetic. The original Terre Haute issue is specifically documented with this embossed silver presentation.

Most importantly, the records themselves are VG++.

That’s where this copy earns its keep. Plenty of these survived; considerably fewer spent nearly five decades without being played into the ground. The jacket remains a solid VG+, while both LPs present considerably stronger.

Gene. Paul. Ace. Peter. Two records and essentially an entire first chapter of KISS in one silver package.

If somebody walked into Mystic Grooves wanting one vintage KISS record that delivers the goods without buying half the catalog, this is the one I’d put on the counter.
