 Kiss: Paul Stanley (vocals, guitar); Gene Simmons (vocals, bass); Bruce Kulick (guitar); Eric Carr (drums).Recorded at The Fortress, Hollywood, California.Continuing in the same vein as many of Kiss' '80s releases, HOT IN THE SHADE picks up where CRAZY NIGHTS left off. Although a pop metal record, this album benefited from Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons taking a more organic approach, as opposed to the Ron Nevison-produced, keyboard-laden NIGHTS. The technique works, as this is a straight-ahead hard rock album with minimal keyboards, but with effective touches of acoustic guitar and brass.Leadoff track "Rise To It" is typical Paul Stanley fare: upbeat, guitar-infested sex rock. "Hide Your Heart" was the first single and the standout track on the album. A funky mid-tempo number written by Stanley, Desmond Child and Holly Knight, the song was also covered by Ace Frehley and Bonnie Tyler. Gene Simmons goes country on "Cadillac Dreams," complete with slide guitar and horns. The acoustic ballad "Forever" was a top 10 smash for the group and was written by Paul Stanley and Michael Bolton. After eight years as the group's drummer, Eric Carr made his lead vocal debut on "Little Ceasar." An above average hard rock album that combined some atypical elements, HOT IN THE SHADE is definitely worth purchasing.

MINT (M) ~ Perfect in every way and never played. Sealed.

Near Mint(NM) - A mint piece of vinyl, this would be our highest grading used for any open record, still has original luster with only the slightest of use (no noticeable scuffs or scratching and will play with no distractions). Cover: Almost perfect without any flaws, almost always in shrink-wrap.

Excellent (EX) - This record would fall between NM- and VG, it’s not quite NM- but is better than VG. This would be only slightly less visually than NM- but still should play almost flawlessly. Cover: Slight wear may be displayed.

Very Good (plus) (VG +) - A very nice record that has been played a little and handled very carefully. Starting to show signs of use such as hairline scratching and scuffing but is still a well-cared-for album and may have some slight discernible imperfection in the audio. Cover: Will have minimal marks and wear.

Very Good (VG) - A nice record which has been played and handled, discs have scratches, and Surface scuffing . Noticeable but minimal surface noise. Groove wear will have started. Cover: Will have seam wear, slight ring wear, or slight corner rounding.

GOOD (G) - Record shows visible sign of play with scratches and scuffs, may have slight surface noise. Cover: Normal used cover wear such as ring wear and split
